Information Literacy Design Assistantship, Internship, or Fellowship
Thun Library, Penn State Berks
Term: Fall 2016 to Spring 2017 (duration: one academic year)
Description of Work: The candidate will be tasked with working alongside Reference Librarians at the Thun Library at Penn State Berks in a new project that will help to map all college course syllabi and learning objectives to the new Association of College and Research Libraries’ Information Literacy framework.
This new initiative will aid the PSU Berks Library Liaison and Information Literacy Integration Project Team in showing campus faculty the importance of Information Literacy and the connections that are already in place between course objectives and how the library faculty can enhance that, leading to possible future curriculum mapping. The candidate will also suggest formats (such as in person workshops, research clinics, online tutorials) that could help the librarians implement the information literacy standards in courses offered at Penn State Berks.
Location:
The Penn State Berks campus is located near Reading, PA (about a one hour drive from Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Allentown/Bethlehem). The candidate will commute to the Berks campus 2-3 times per week during normal workday hours. Penn State World Campus students are strongly encouraged to apply.
Outcomes of the Internship:
At the end of the internship the student will be able to:
- Effectively evaluate course syllabi to connect to a framework of national learning outcomes.
- Articulate the importance of critical thinking design initiatives at colleges.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of the overarching importance of library and information literacy instruction in academia.
- Collaborate with librarians, staff, and teaching faculty on designing instructional activities and assignments to further integrate information literacy into coursework.
Compensation:
This is a Grade 12 half-time assistantship with an academic year stipend of $21,288 (including fringe benefits, such as health insurance), plus 100% tuition remission for up to 9 credits of coursework.
