The LDT program is excited to announce a complete revision to the course EDTEC 561 – Measuring the Impact of Technology on Learning (3 credits). The updated course will run in Spring 2017, and is available for registration NOW in LionPATH as course number 30472. The prerequisites for this course are waived.
Authored by Dr. Gabriela Richard, this course is designed to prepare educators in basic qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods used to assess the effects of a variety of technology-related innovations on learning in and out of the classroom. During this course, we will survey a variety of methods used in the social sciences and educational research. This course serves to give you a general overview of the kinds of methods researchers in our field use in their studies, and you may want to engage with for your graduate projects, theses, capstones and dissertations. Throughout the course, you will be expected to reflect on the different methods on your own and with your classmates, engage in different data collection and analysis techniques, and write a final research proposal related to your area of interest. Final projects could include designing and developing an implementation project to examine the effectiveness of technology enhanced learning experiences in your classroom or school, or a naturalistic observation of the ways learners utilize technologies in their daily lives.
Note: Soon after the Spring 2017 term this course will receive a prefix and title change. The new course will still count toward degrees and certificates like the existing 561 course, but the updated prefix and title better represents the current content of the course. The future listing of this course will read as: LDT 561 – Research Foundations in Learning, Design, and Technology.
Please also note that this course is not a substitute for a formal research methods course that would be required of M.S. and Ph.D. students.
