Here we are, ready for the quick transition from spring to summer terms. Most of our summer courses are full or filling. With little rest, we also turn our attention to the Fall 2018 term, as the registration for all Fall 2018 courses is open. Some of our fall courses are within a few people of being filled. Here are some ideas of what you should be ready for.
Summer 2018 Registration
At the bottom of this post we’ll share the information about the available courses for Summer 2018.
What should I register for?
Students who are new, or in their earlier semesters of, their LDT degree or certificate program should register for LDT 467 – Emerging Web Technologies and Learning.
Students who work professionally as K-12 educators or administrators should take our LDT 433 – Teaching and Learning Online in K-12 Settings course, which is the flagship course for a certificate by the same name. This course is newly rebuilt, and the certificate program was launched earlier in 2018. Learn more about LDT 433 here.
Students who are in their middle to latter stages of their certificate or degree program should register for either LDT 505 or LDT 832.
How do I prepare for my course(s)?
Read this for a primer on how prepare for your courses and make the best of the first week of class.
When do courses begin?
Most LDT courses in Summer 2018 begin on Wednesday, 9 May 2018. The LDT 832 – Designing e-Learning for Course Management Systems course begins on a delay, starting 11 June 2018.
Remember the no-fee drop/add period.
Students can drop and add courses early in the term without incurring a financial penalty. We will remind you of this no-fee drop period, and we will encourage you drop any course(s) that you have uncertainty about. Missing the drop/add deadline by even a few hours could cause you to pay up to $700 in fees. Drop a course even longer after and you could pay half or more of the tuition for that course. We mention this more than once because we have no control over the fees assessed by the University’s Bursar.
Compressed Courses
Don’t overlook the fact that our summer course offerings are “compressed” compared to our fall and spring term courses. You may be completing a course in half of its typical delivery time, which implies that you might be doing more work during a lesson week in the summer than what you’d typically be accountable for in the fall or spring. Because of the compression, you and your course project partners may need to work harder to find better times to meet, and your family may need to be a little more understanding about your tighter deadlines. If you have questions about the course schedule and the commitment required to complete it, please reach out to the course instructor before or during the first few days of the course.
Fall 2018 Registration
At the bottom of this post we’ll share information about the available courses for Fall 2018.
Which Fall 2018 courses should I register for?
Students who are new, or in their earlier semesters of, their LDT degree or certificate program should register for LDT 415A – Systematic Instructional Development orĀ LDT 467 – Emerging Web Technologies and Learning.
Because you are registering early in the process, all other students can register for whatever courses are available and that fit their certificate or degree program. Remember, there are no course substitutions in certificate programs, and students in the M.Ed. program must consult with their academic advisor.
Have a great year!
The summer and fall terms mark the start of a new academic year. We are glad to have you in our community. Your effort will pay off in your life, just keep pushing forward.
