In partnership with the World Campus Learning Design, the LDT faculty are happy to offer a special edition of the LDT 835 – Supervised Field Experience in Online Instruction specifically for students interested in learning more about the design of instructional resources in a corporate or higher education setting. Students with interests in other educational arenas, such as K-12 schools, are also welcome to take the course if they are interested in learning about design processes outside of their usual context.
This summer-only course is available to students who have completed 15 or more credits. The instructor for this edition of LDT 835 is Chris Millet, the director of World Campus Learning Design. This course is geared for those with an interest in how learning design works in a professional context (corporate, government, commercial, organizational, and higher education). This course will help students gain insight into many aspects of how an innovative learning design organization functions, and is intended to prepare you to work in such organizations. Topics will include:
- key skill sets to being an effective instructional designer,
- doing learning design within a team,
- advancing innovative pedagogies and technologies within an organization,
- practical constraints that shape learning design decision-making,
- the landscape of online and blended learning today, and
- developing a professional network
Students will engage with professionals in a variety of roles typical of a learning design organization including instructional designers, multimedia developers, and programmers, and will have the opportunity to see how designers engage with faculty throughout a real development cycle.
