Greetings students, one and all! We hope that you are having a comfortable, safe, and relaxing summertime—either now, or sometime soon. The summer is proceeding quickly—don’t forget to take time for yourself. At the time of posting there are only 6 weeks remaining before the Fall 2021 courses begin on Monday, August 23.
We have just admitted a healthy number of new students to our degree and certificate programs. We welcome these new students, and we are encouraged that many students are returning their focus to their professional development and preparation for the ever-changing trends in education and training.
With the arrival of our new students, current (continuing) students are reminded that Fall 2021 course registration has been available to them since April 12, 2021. If you are a current LDT student and you have not registered for your Fall 2021 courses yet, you must attend to this immediately. The new students will all soon have status to register (in a matter of hours/days from the time of posting), and then, naturally, they will jump into the courses that they need.
All registration happens via LionPATH. Check out how to search for LDT courses on LionPATH (note, the LionPATH interface may have changed but the process/criteria are the same).
All courses are delivered via Canvas and the course materials become visible by 10:00 AM on the morning of the scheduled start date for the course.
The courses that we will offer in Fall 2021, and the course number useful for registration, are summarized in the table below. After the table we’ll offer some course selection guidance for new and continuing students.

Course Selection Guidance
Overall, most of our students take one course per term until they are comfortable with the commitments required to study well and do good work. Our students are typically working full-time jobs and have faced other obligations during the pandemic. LDT courses generally require 10-15 hours per week to attend to all of the reading, assignments/writing, activities, and collaboration expected by the course.
Students who are receiving federal financial aid are required by the US Department of Education to take at least two courses per term. These students are encouraged to create ample time and space in their lives in order to invest adequate time and effort into your studies.
Certificate Students
New certificate students are encouraged to review the Standing Advisement post relevant to your certificate program that was sent to you in your admissions decision notification email:
- Standing Advisement for Educational Technology Integration (EDTECH)
- Standing Advisement for e-Learning Design (ELEARN)
- Standing Advisement for Teaching and Learning Online in K-12 Settings (TLOK12)
While there’s no order by which you must complete your certificate, new students seeking advisement on their first course(s) can consider LDT 467 – Emerging Web Technologies and Learning and/or LDT 415A – Systematic Instructional Development.
Any additional questions by certificate students can be emailed to your assigned academic advisor, Dr. Josh Kirby.
Degree Students
M.Ed. in LDT students also have reference documents to aid their course decisions. Check out the documents available on our LDT Program Documents page. M.Ed. students can contact their assigned academic advisor for answers to additional questions.
Like the certificate students, while space is available, M.Ed. in LDT students can consider LDT 467 – Emerging Web Technologies and Learning and/or LDT 415A – Systematic Instructional Development as their first course(s).
Register Soon
To all current and incoming students, remember that it is always valuable and important to register as soon as you are eligible to register for courses. This blog, our emailed newsletters, your assigned advisor, and Dr. Kirby can help you prepare for your future registrations so that you can get into the courses you seek when they have openings. When students register early and a course fills quickly, the LDT faculty may be able to adjust and offer a second section of the course to help our students proceed according to their plans. It is also important to add yourself to the wait list of any course that is full at the time that you attempt to register.
We hope that you have a great summer and return to your Fall 2021 courses refreshed and ready to make progress toward your career goals. Please reach-out if you need additional help.
