It is with great pleasure and excitement that I take on new leadership responsibilities within our World Campus LDT program. I am an associate Professor in the Learning, Design, and Technology program and the new Professor in Charge (PIC). I have had the pleasure of teaching within this program and advising online Masters students since 2014. In that time I have developed great respect for our online students, many of whom are balancing work and home responsibilities while at the same time pursuing their educational goals. This is the type of life long learning and dedication that we should all aspire to! As such, Dr. ChanMin Kim (incoming Certificate Program Adviser) and I are committed to helping our online students succeed in meeting whatever goals they set.
I see my role this coming year as one of learning and working towards positive change. I will be learning more about our online students, their backgrounds, courses, and needs from them, our staff, and our World Campus partners. I plan to work in collaboration with our faculty, staff, and World Campus partners to document students’ needs and find better ways meet these needs.
Dr. Kim and I will also work together to ensure that our students know about all upcoming deadlines in our program and resources offered through World Campus. Towards this aim, I include some information about some resource below.
Have a great semester!
Dr. Marcela Borge
Potential resources for students
World Campus Writing Support
If you are in a World Campus class that isn’t supported by Tutor.com, instructors can still request writing support for a student by contacting World Campus Academic Support, academicsupport@worldcampus.psu.edu.
This service provides tutoring to World Campus students with a substantial need for writing support that cannot be met in their classes. Students accepted to this program are given ten hours of tutoring with writing tutors from Tutor.com. Students can chat live with a tutor about their writing or drop off an essay for feedback.
If you feel that you could benefit from this service, please ask your instructor to contact academicsupport@worldcampus.psu.edu, and provide the following information:
- student’s name
- user ID
- course number
- a rationale for the referral
Given the limited number of accounts available, not all WC students can receive writing support through this program. This service is meant to complement the efforts of an instructor and other resources available at Penn State. Please reach out to Academic Support if you have any questions.
Mental health services
With all the aded stress from the pandemic and political, economic, and social events in the world, we recognize it can be a difficult time to be a student. While our online students may not be physically on a Penn State campus, it is important to know that they still have access to many Penn State resources, especially mental health resources. World Campus has a specific page dedicated to mental health resources: World Campus offers on-demand resources and case management services to assist students during difficult times. So, if you find that yourself struggling this semester, please do not hesitate to reach out to World Campus Mental Health and your instructor. We value our students and will work to ensure that they are supported. Please visit there site for additional information. https://student.worldcampus.psu.edu/student-services/mental-health-services
