Possible Fall 2017 Offering of ADTED 531

Based on student need the LLAED and LDT programs are partnering to determine student interest in a Fall 2017 offering of the ADTED 531 – Course Design and Development in Distance Education. ADTED 531 is a required course for the Postbaccalaureate Certificate in e-Learning Design, but it can be taken (with advisor permission) by any Master of Education in Learning, Design, and Technology student.

Anyone who would like to take ADTED 531 in Fall 2017 should send an email to Dr. Kirby as soon as possible. We need between five and eight more students total to enroll for the course to run.

Dr. Kirby will be traveling from July 12 to August 2, 2017. He will have limited access to voice and data communications during that time. Advisees and and other LDT students are asked to note the dates. Registration for Fall 2017 courses has been open since March 2017, and by mid-July the current and incoming students should be registered for their courses. If it is not done before July 10th or so, it can safely wait until early August in most cases.

Most of Dr. Kirby’s time away this summer will be serving in a volunteer program management role for an outdoor youth event with 21,000 participants and 8,000 adult volunteers and staff. The opportunity will undoubtedly provide rich and colorful examples of learning design and technology integration that will make their way into his courses.

My name is wrong! – Name Changes at PSU

Has your name legally changed since the time that you first connected with Penn State University? If so, your previous name may be displayed on all of Penn State’s digital systems, including your Penn State Access Account and your Canvas (course management system) profile. Fixing this is relatively straightforward, but you’ll need to fill out a form and provide some documentation of the legal name change status. The Penn State Registrar’s office provides instructions and forms for this name change process.

Specialized Name Changes

The Penn State Registrar’s office, mentioned above, is equipped to process documented legal name changes due to marriage, divorce, and court-ordered action. There are other cases when a student may wish to change the display of her/his name on Penn State information systems, and those cases are handled by the offices mentioned below. [Read more…]

Advance Purchase of Course Textbooks

Students in the LDT Online Programs are expected to have all course textbooks and resources in-hand by the opening day of a course. Course textbook information is posted more 3 to 6 months in advance at the time that course registration opens. A link to the textbook information is included with every course listing in LionPATH. We also provide information about “Purchasing Textbooks” in section four of our New Student Information Page.

In the LionPATH Course Catalog, under the course title, is a hyperlink that reads: View the World Campus Course Catalog Page for Course materials, requirements, and a sample syllabus. New Blog URL

The LDT Online Programs were recently granted a newer, cleaner URL for our blog for students. The blog may now be accessed via https://ldtonline.psu.edu.

The existing URL will also continue to work, but will redirect to the newer URL. The existing URL is https://sites.psu.edu/ldtonline.

Some Web browsers may show a security warning when visiting ldtonline.psu.edu for the first time. Users may need to click “Allow Security Exception” or a similar option to proceed beyond the warning page. The Penn State Web team has communicated that they are working toward a solution for the issue.

Spring 2018 Course Registration Timetable

The Penn State University Registrar has announced the registration timetable for Spring 2018 courses. The LDT Online Programs’ course lineup will be available during the early in the Fall 2017 term. Students should add their respective registration date to their calendars to plan when they should register for courses. LDT students are always encouraged to register as soon as they are eligible. The Registrar’s timetables for future terms are here.

Fall 2017 Registration Update – LDT 832 Added

With the Summer 2017 term underway we can now fix our sights squarely upon Fall 2017. We encourage all LDT program students to register as soon as they are eligible. Fall 2017 course registration has been open since March 2017, and many of our courses for the Fall term are half-filled or more. Please register now. You will not be billed for the Fall courses until near the end of the summer.

LDT 832 Added

To better balance the course offerings for our students, we have added LDT 832 – Designing e-Learning for Course Management Systems to our Fall 2017 lineup. You can read the description of this course on our LDT Course Descriptions page.

Resume Study – What, why, and how?

Once a student is accepted into a certificate program or admitted into a degree program, the Graduate School at Penn State expects each student to register for one or more courses for every fall term and spring term until that student completes their program. This is known as continuous registration. The summer term(s) are not required for continuous registration, but each and every fall and spring term is required for continuous registration.

What happens if you don’t take a course one fall or one spring semester? If a student does not register for a fall term or a spring term (or more), then s/he will be required to submit a “resume study” application. The handbook for our Master of Education in Learning, Design, and Technology degree program is a cornerstone of advisement for all students (master’s and certificate alike).
