Hello LDT students! We’re in that interesting time of year when you are asked to consider and register for your Summer and Fall courses at the same time. You can learn more about Fall 2021 courses on this page. [link to be added]
Registration for Summer 2021 is currently open to the entire world—not just LDT students—and we’re beginning to see our course registration numbers increase. Below are key reminders for our students, as well as a listing of our Summer course offerings.
LDT 832 Added Section
Thanks to our student’s quick action in registering as soon as eligible, we were able to see an increased demand for the course LDT 832 – Designing e-Learning for Course Management Systems. We are happy to announce that we have added a second section of LDT 832, which will be delivered with the same syllabus and course content and during the same schedule in the summer. Students in the Postbaccalaureate Certificate in e-Learning Design (ELEARN) who have not already taken LDT 832 should take this course in Summer 2021. The next offering of LDT 832 is tentative, “penciled” on the schedule for Spring 2022, but currently depends on student need and faculty availability.
Learning Design Field Experience (LDT 835)
Students who have completed 15+ credits in the LDT program and who have interest (even if only curiosity) about how learning design works in higher education, government, corporate, and other settings, are highly encouraged to take the “higher ed and corporate edition” of our LDT 835 – Supervised Field Experience in Online Instruction course. This edition is only offered during the summer term, and is delivered through a partnership with Penn State World Campus. Learn more about this course by reading this post.
K-12 Online Teaching for Educators
Our Postbaccalaureate Certificate in Teaching and Learning Online in K-12 Settings, including the experiences of some of our alumni, were recent highlights in Penn State News. This summer we’re offering the certificate’s foundational course that goes by the same name, LDT 433 – Teaching and Learning Online in K-12 Settings, which is a course that we only offer during the summer term. Everyone who works in K-12 education would benefit from this course, and we encourage you to take it. Our instructor, Dr. Kimberly Zelonis, has more than a decade of experience in designing online resources specifically for the K-12 audience. She has invested substantial time in refining the course to make it immediately relevant and useful to K-12 educators faced with online teaching responsibilities.
Certificate Student Reminders
- Certificate students must notify the LDT Program when the grade is posted to their transcript (in LionPATH) for their final course in their certificate program. When the grade is posted for your last course in the certificate, please write to Ms. Whitney DeShong and Dr. Kirby so that we can initiate the process to finalize your certificate. You will not automatically receive the certificate—you must notify us that you have completed it and wish to receive the printed certificate.
- Our Documents page links you to the Standing Advisement for your particular certificate(s)—virtually all common questions are answered in the Standing Advisement for your certificate.
- If you intend to continue your study into the master’s degree (M.Ed. in LDT) program, please remember that you must apply for the degree program at the beginning of the term when you are taking your final (fourth or fifth) course in your certificate program in order to have a seamless transition from certificate to degree student status.
M.Ed. Student Reminders
- M.Ed. students who are taking the final course(s) for their degree must declare their intent to graduate on LionPATH at the beginning of what they believe to be the final semester. This post will help you track all of the requirements for graduation.
- The next offering of the required Scholarship and Research Integrity (SARI) training will be in September 2021. Please sign-up now for the training. Learn more by reading the SARI page. The SARI training is not offered during the Summer term, so please plan ahead.
- If you wish to explore elective courses offered by other programs, an option only available to our M.Ed. students, please write to your assigned academic advisor.
- The Documents page has a handbook, checklist, and other useful resources for M.Ed. in LDT students.
