In partnership with the World Campus Learning Design, the LDT faculty are happy to offer a special edition of the LDT 835 – Supervised Field Experience in Online Instruction specifically for students interested in learning more about the design of instructional resources in a corporate or higher education setting. Students with interests in other educational arenas, such as K-12 schools, are also welcome to take the course if they are interested in learning about design processes outside of their usual context.
Spring 2021 Course Registration Last Call
Welcome to 2021! Here’s to hoping that 2021 will be different than 2020.

Complete the Pre-Registration Activity Guide Every Term
All students must complete the Pre-Registration Activity Guide (PRAG) in LionPATH each term in order to receive permission to register for the next term. In the student view of LionPATH, the need to complete the PRAG is indicated in the To Do List. If your To Do List reads as zero items, then you are permitted to register for courses.
You can learn more about the PRAG [Read more…]
Spring 2021 Registration Launch
Greetings LDT community! It is time to register for Spring 2021 courses. The Spring 2021 term’s courses will begin on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, and continue until April 30, 2021. There will be no spring break week this year, and courses will run straight through the term.
Registration Timetable
Here is the university’s registration timetable for M.Ed. in LDT students with 20+ credits completed, M.Ed. in LDT students who are admitted to the program and have 0 to 19 credits completed, and certificate and nondegree students.
It is extremely important for students to register for courses as soon as they are eligible. We gauge course availability based on registration trends. If a course fills in the first 1-2 weeks, then we know it is in high demand and we can attempt to add sections or accommodate more students. If a course hasn’t filled within a few weeks after registration has opened, we assume that the current need has been fulfilled. If a course appears full, it is extremely important that you add yourself to the official course wait list in LionPATH. The wait list in LionPATH is the only way that we know that there is demand for a course.
July 2020 Greeting: Register and Be Counted
Greetings to all LDT Online Students!
If we asked you to list everything in your life that has changed over the past 110 days, that list would span every available emotion. It would be sad, absurd, confusing, ridiculous, enraging, hopeful, thankful, spiteful, and disorienting… to say the least. The LDT Online Program’s faculty, staff, and students are all experiencing the same challenges, and looking to the same hopes. We are acutely aware that each person is affected differently by the COVID-19 pandemic, and yet the fact that we are all affected can bind us together.
What has stayed the same for you in the past 110 days? We hope many good things remain consistent for you. As far as our program goes, a few things have stayed the same: [Read more…]
Fall 2020 Registration Update
The LDT Online Program intends to deliver all of its scheduled courses in the Fall 2020 term. If you intend to take one or more courses with LDT Online in the fall, then please register in LionPATH as soon as possible. By registering for courses early (now!) you help us secure our plans to deliver the courses that you need, and you help us communicate to the University that our students are active, engaged, and ready to learn!
In the sections below we’ll highlight our planned offerings, reminders about the registration process, and provide brief guidance about who should register for which course(s). [Read more…]
TLOK12 Certificate Students: Standing Advisement
When you visit your physician, she might give you “standing orders” either out of convenience or concern. Some patients receive standing orders for medical clinics or labs allowing them to walk-in for repeat clinic or lab work with less hassle. I think the certificate students in the LDT program would benefit from some standing advisement from me—foundational advice from their assigned academic advisor that will apply almost always, to nearly every student. I’m posting this standing advisement here so that it is freely and consistently available. It can be a conversation starter—students can read this, and if their questions are not answered here then they can write me directly. [Read more…]
LionPATH Course Search Criteria
We Penn Staters live and die by LionPATH. It is a powerful student information system, but its interface requires training for its users to harness that power. One of the earliest, and trickiest, LionPATH tactics that LDT Online students must learn is how to search for courses in order to see the full complement of offerings for a given term.
Refer to the image embedded below. Once you navigate to the “Search for Classes” view, be sure to do the enter the search criteria from top to bottom (1-11) as listed below. Please note that skipping any of the steps below will result in either a failed search for courses, or an incomplete list of courses offered by the program.
LDT Online and Coping with COVID-19
The expectations for the month of April 2020 have now changed. No matter the age, the family situation, the employment, or the health concerns, the next 30 days for the USA, and the world, will largely be affected by what we each do in our actions and behaviors. If we can physically distance ourselves, we should do that. If you are essential personnel and you must be on the move, then please be safe. And with grocery trips taking on a new significance and level of planning, we now must temporarily think carefully about everything we do.
While much of the world is being introduced to online learning, our LDT Online Programs continue to deliver its courses and services to students. [Read more…]
