The summer term always brings about changes for university types. Current part-time students are often looking to take more courses during the summer, while full-time students often take fewer courses. Members of the faculty use the summer to teach, conduct research, catch up on projects, or spend time with their families. Support staff members are closing out last year’s reports, records, and accounts, and starting up the new fiscal year. Administrators are often starting or ending assignments, projects, and programs during the summer. Prospects and new students are making inquiries and applications, learning of admission decisions, and registering for their first courses. All of the above applies to the LDT program faculty, staff, students, and administrators. [Read more…]

Do everything in LionPATH
LionPATH, Penn State’s new student information system, has been phased into daily use since Spring 2016. Students, especially those enrolled in a LDT program degree or certificate, should now be using LionPATH for all of their student information needs, including:
- Registering for courses
- Dropping courses before the official start of the course
- Reviewing grades, transcripts, and schedules
- Paying bills
Mid-May 2016 LDT Online Update
Most Summer 2016 courses offered by the LDT program are underway, and enrollment is strong. Many of our courses filled to capacity, and the remainder were enrolled at expected levels. Thank you to our students who enrolled early.
Speaking of early enrollment, registration for Fall 2016 courses is now open via LionPATH! If you’ve not yet registered for our offerings in the Fall term, please don’t delay. You will not need to pay for your courses at the time of enrollment—registration and billing are separate processes, and your final balance for Fall courses will be due in mid-August.
If your personal or professional situation changes and you face a need to drop a course, there’s a specialized and directed procedure for World Campus students to drop a course. Note that there’s a difference in terminology that sometimes causes momentary confusion: a single course is dropped, but dropping all courses is called a withdrawal—you are withdrawing from the university for a whole semester (or longer). There are differing financial ramifications and administrative requirements for a drop versus a withdrawal.
To peek at the back-office side of our program, this summer we’re busy developing new courses and new certificate programs to broaden our offeringsfor our students. We hope to roll-out complete revisions and as well as new courses in the upcoming 12 to 18 months. Course development and delivery to a Penn State level of quality is a highly involved process, so we’re chipping away. Given that Penn State believes that A Penn State Course is a Penn State Course regardless of campus, location, or instructor, our work to deliver online courses that equal the courses taught on-campus is comprehensive. We’re excited about what lies ahead for us.
Good luck to all of our students for their summer courses. And a warm welcome to our newest students.
There’s a hold on my LionPATH account!?
Every student, every semester, begins with a hold on their LionPATH account that prevents the student from being eligible to register. The holds are administrative, and they are easy to fix.
Prior to registration, a student must accept a Financial Responsibility Agreement, and read through and complete a Pre-Registration Activity Guide. The University Registrar has help documentation about these tasks at this page under the heading Complete the Pre-Registration Activity Guide and sign the Financial Responsibility Agreement. Alternatively, you may click the image on the right to be taken to the video tutorial for the Activity Guide.
Clearing those two holds should then allow you to register. If you are still unable to register after clearing those holds, the most direct path to resolution is calling the World Campus Student Support group at 1-800-252-3592.
Canvas tip: Setting Communication Preferences
The Canvas course management system (CMS) offers useful features for pushing notices about our courses right to you. If this is your first semester using Canvas, then your settings might all be at the default, and you might want to receive better notices of those announcements. You can use this guide to adjust your personal notification settings.
If you have questions or issues with Canvas, your best bet is to contact the World Campus Help Desk, as those specialists are available and well-prepared to help you solve your technical problems. Information about contacting the Help Desk for technical support is here.
